A page dedicated to our tree enthusiasts!

The many trees located in The Mesa is what makes our neighborhood unique and special, also giving our neighborhood its namesake.  Did you know that caring for trees can add value to your property?  There are also many programs through Southern California that offer many resources, for free!

LA County provides free Parkway Trees to residents in the unincorporated parts of the county (such as Mesa Oaks).  You can request a tree planting, if your property can support the tree and you can care for it. But please do your research involving the responsibilities of having a parkway tree planted on your property.

Tree Care, Trimming, or Removal

It takes special skill, knowledge to keep a tree healthy for the tree's life.  There are proper ways to prune a tree for height, crown management, growth or other visibility issues to ensure the tree's health and our safety. Thinking of adding or removing soil from/to your tree's trunks? Please hire knowledgeable arborists when possible.  Our friends at the Arbor Day Foundation have some tips!

Trees & Fire Safety

Does your property abut native areas with overgrown foliage? The Mesa has experienced fires in the past so be sure your trees are properly maintained and landscape designs have factored fire risks.  The University of California provides additional resources here.

The Mesa Oak
(aka Engelmann Oak
Quercus engelmannii)

What we know as the Mesa Oak is the Quercus engelmannii oak tree native to Southern California. They can grow upwards of 60 feet and thrive in our full sunny conditions and generally stay evergreen.
